“Frise Lumiere is the experimental brainchild of composer Ludovic Gerst. He wielded only a bass guitar and the drumstick he beat hungrily against it. It was raw.
Perched atop a stool in almost complete darkness, conjuring up this hypnotic monosyllabic rumble, Gerst evoked the image of a wizard both in stance and sound. It was reminiscent of guttural throat singing.”

ambo est le deuxième album de frise lumière.
Développé autour de la basse préparée comme système sonore autonome, l’album poursuit une recherche autour de la résonance, de la vibration et de la dimension physique du son. À travers des techniques de jeu étendues, structures rythmiques, couches harmoniques et textures percussives émergent simultanément d’un seul instrument, laissant la composition se déployer par l’écoute, le geste et l’interaction acoustique.
Le titre ambo est emprunté à l’écrivaine Maria Gabriela Llansol, qui utilise ce terme pour désigner deux êtres qui, tout en restant distincts, évoluent ensemble par le dialogue sans jamais s’annuler.

“The video for ‘Jeziorko,’ a standout track from ‘Ambo,’ is more than just a visual complement—it acts as an additional instrument, introducing new layers of perspective and harmony to the music. In this five-minute duet of sound and image, scenes from a 1926 Japanese silent film are mixed with Polaroid and analog photos, creating an animated postcard that mirrors the aesthetic of the vinyl release.
‘Jeziorko’ itself, named after the Polish word for “lake,” draws inspiration from the work of ceramic artist Irena Lipska-Zworska, particularly her porcelain and glass mirror piece Jeziorko (1986-1987). The sounds and techniques Gerst employs in the track evoke the delicate, dreamlike quality of porcelain, as if the music were crafted from the material itself, infusing the piece with a sense of fragility and ethereal beauty. Through ‘Ambo,’ Gerst continues to push his craft, fusing sound, art, and experimental technique into a singular, evocative experience.”
